A Stirring

What is this state of being
I feel alive, but too alive
I am distractedly aware of my body
Every sense is heightened
I feel my skin rub against my clothes
I’m conscious of my hips as I walk
My heels on the brick pound in ears
The sun warms the top of my head
Fragrance finds my nose and I am lost in it
My fingers fondle my clothing absent-mindedly
For too long I stroke my coffee cup against my lip
Its bitter, then earthy as it burns down my throat
The people and their eyes
They all see me, I do not look away
And I smile, I can’t help it
I feel them engaging me
There is an unsettling here
A deep yearning for touch
An awakening ache from deep within
To feel and to be felt

Very nice poem. I like it.
So, you're a poet too, and a good one! Hmmm. Who are you, mystery woman? If you're looking for a "feeler...."
This is beautiful! It brings to mind a lot of great memories.
Hey, I caught this in Hubtivity, how come I didn't get a mail to let me know about it? Never mind, here I am now!
Skin rubbing on clothes is indeed stirring! I'm not surprised she keeps you on a tight leash -- but you do realize, don't you, that the leash image is very stirring too?
You don't know the half of it, Randy, but let me tone down, least we give the boys, and some of the girls, a full blown stroke!
On second thought, though, that doesn't sound like such a bad idea! Laugh!
Lovely seductive, sensuous vibes here describing how I have felt many a time.I like..this is my kind of poem yahoooo
This is a great poem. I totally identify with the feelings it evokes. I love that sense of "Timelessness" that comes at certain moments, making everything about the world come alive and become vibrant. I used to love the early morning of northern Minnesota because it evoked what your poem describes. Thanks for bringing me back to that place, if only for awhile.
